There is no set rule on this some like vertical fist others horizontal fist some like the large first two knuckles Karate style others the last three Bruce Lee style.
Which ever system you prefer hand conditioning must take place twice a week see conditioning section.
I use vertical three knuckle for straight and hook punches and seiken aka forefist for uppercuts or shovel hooks to the floating ribs - but that is purely my preference one of the reasons being I target between the eyes with straights rather than tiny chins with a mouthful of unbrushed teeth waiting should I miss.
